چکیده

As shown by recent studies it is estimated that there will be nearly 300 million digital image capture devices in use worldwide through 2004, capturing about 29 billion digital pictures, most of which will be organised in some kind of multimedia repository and available via the World Wide Web or through some other means of sharing data [Infotrend, 04]. Many of these images need to be stored, sorted and retrieved by using personal digital library applications. MPEG-7 offers a range of standardized description methods for generating metadata for multimedia content and allows ontology-like semantic descriptions. Caliph & Emir is a pair of applications that use MPEG-7 for annotation and search of digital photos focusing on semantic descriptions.

Content-Based Image Retrieval Systems - Reviewing and Benchmarking

The last detailed review of Content-based Image Retrieval Systems (CBIRS) is that from Veltkamp and Tanase [VT02], updated in 2002. Since then, many new systems emerged, other systems were improved, but many systems are no longer supported. This paper reconsiders the systems described by Veltkamp and Tanase and proposes in addition for a selection of existing CBIRS a quantitative comparison. Fo...

Generic Multimedia Database Architecture Based upon Semantic Libraries

Semantic-based storage and retrieval of multimedia data requires accurate annotation of the data. Annotation can be done either manually or automatically. The retrieval performance of the manual annotation based approaches is quite good, as compared to approaches based on automatic annotation. However, manual annotation is time consuming and labor extensive. Therefore, it is quite difficult to ...
